LONDON — Kering has entered into a five-year partnership with the Center for Sustainable Fashion at the London College of Fashion, in a bid to support sustainable design and “viable innovation in the fashion industry,” Kering and LCF said in a joint statement.
There will be three elements to the partnership, which the two firms said would act as an incubator “for new ways of thinking about sustainable fashion.” They number the Kering Award for Sustainable Fashion, a contest that will be open to third-year BA and MA students at LCF, across the disciplines of fashion design, management and communications, with students judged on providing “creative and achievable solutions” to a Kering project brief. Two winners will be awarded a financial grant and an internship with Kering brands.

Meanwhile, Kering and the CSF are to create a full course module that will be taught each year at the LCF, focusing on the role that sustainability plays in fashion.
Thirdly, there will be an annual program of Kering Talks, as part of which fashion industry business leaders will speak on the latest developments in sustainable fashion. The inaugural talk will take place Oct. 29, when François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive officer of Kering, will address the LCF on the importance of sustainability in “building a fashion industry of the future,” the statement read.
Pinault said of the partnership would “encourage the next generation of fashion professionals to place sustainability at the heart of their future careers. Our collaboration will help make sustainable fashion a business reality.”
Professor Frances Corner, head of LCF and pro vice chancellor of University of the Arts London, added of the partnership: “Using our combined strengths as educators and business leaders, we are uniquely placed to come up with creative and transformative solutions.”
